The last calm-ish week

This week was the yellow-flag iris pulling by 4th, 5th, and 6th grade local Montessori students at Shaker Lakes. The school even got a grant a while back to buy boots to get into the big marsh and dig out these invasive plants.

I tagged along so that I could cut off everything above the root to have some papermaking fiber. Monday was good, Tuesday we got rained out by downpour, and Wed was muddy but nice weather. Today, I needed to stay home and have my one last day of solo time to prep for my show, trip to NYC, and catch up on a range of admin to household things. I won't get to make the iris paper until deep into October, but that's something to look forward to.

Julie started an indigo vat so I just went for it. Still hoping for a walnut vat tomorrow to overdye. We'll see; everything is by ear these days. I got 22 pieces of glass yesterday that made me realize I cannot assemble my frames for my show in my studio because it's too far off the ground, so I had an emergency run to a friend's ground-floor space. Duck prints will be assembled this weekend!

Last night, I stayed up late and gave into the nest thing. I was NOT going to do individual duckling nests, but my time/ability/tendon constraints have nixed the idea of having a bigger woven boat/raft for groups of these wee ones.

I won't be able to make it, but tomorrow a great book show opens in Chicago! My books will hang out there this month. Oh, already October. WOW.
